The aim of this project was to created a blog for aspiring bakers. The idea behind this was that the blog had been set up by a married couple who run a successful chain of bakeries in the UK. They post recipes, guides and articles to other budding bakers.

The blog is inspired by and named after ‘The Great British Bake Off’ tv show and this is reflected in the logo I created. It resembles the cake that is featured in the opening titles of the show and the Union Jack flag is a quirky addition.

Wireframes of my initial ideas for the blog, created using Whimsical. As this website was a blog I made sure to involve plenty of room for text and imagery without overwhelming the reader.

The final designs were created using Figma. I used soft/pastel shades of red, blue and green so the content would be easy to read. Each colour represented a different type of post (red for recipes, blue for guides, green for articles) so when they appeared on the homepage the user would know what type of post it was. I also changed the layout of the homepage so the ‘About Us’ section appeared in the center instead of in a sidebar.

During the design process I decided to add a display banner at the bottom of some pages advertising the couple’s latest cookery book. I created the cover using Canva.

The final website design displayed on a variety of devices.
